Thoughts on Historical Worship

Tiny Rant:

“To know the Gods by history is one thing, but to relive history to know the Gods is another. “- me

The Gods predate and surpass history. To know the ways of the ancient peoples and how they interacted/worshiped the Gods is great for study. But to hone down exact routine and relive history in practice is utterly futile. That was then and this is now. The Gods were experienced and expressed in those days. They surpassed ancient history in our text books and have entered into the modern era.
We have progressed and updated our ways of living. Some good and some bad. In the same breath the Gods have not remained in a forgotten cloud of Christianity or temple ruin. They have transcended and reformed Themselves, for us and with us, and in some ways by us. We can research, reinvent, and even reconstruct the ancient ways. But to what purpose do we do these things?
If we do this to know the Gods historically, we will fail. But if we do this to KNOW Them as They are now, then we win.
To be able to stand in my urban back yard, in my street clothes and stretch forth my arms, and call forth the Old Gods, is pure ecstasy. I know Them by Their textbook facts and ideas. But I KNOW Them by how They interact with me and I with Them.
My worship and devotion does not solely rely on historical fact or way of practice, but on a whim of bliss and pure spiritual intuition.
They tell me how to worship Them. They tell me how to interpret Them. They tell me how They were real then and They show me just how real They are now.
I live, practice, and worship in the enthrallment of my Gods. I live and breath to serve Them. I live and breath to truly KNOW Them inside and out. They began before me and I will end before Them. I do not do this for history or textbook authenticity. I do this for a relationship between a modern me and a modern Them.

History is not to be forgotten, but it is also not to be relived, spiritually or physically. We will never truly KNOW Them if we only dwell in the shadow of Their past. To KNOW Them is to see Them as for what and who They are now. To experience Them in 2020 is not the same as experiencing Them in 500 BC.

Agree or disagree this is how I feel and what I believe.
